Weston Park came to life with the sound of drumming and war cries on Saturday at the annual Dragons Abreast Dragon Boat Regatta as 850 corporate paddlers raced in dragon boats for fun and glory and to raise funds for breast cancer groups.
There were lots of crowns amongst the pink this year in keeping with our royal theme - and did we catch a glimpse of the Queen waving to us from the lawns of Goverment House? Chief Minister Katy Gallagher opened the event and Senator Kate Lundy and Brendan Smyth MLA made the presentations to the winners. Alistair Coe MLA competed in the racing, paddling with the Curves Corsairs team.
The day was a huge success, a real celebration and fabulous community event.
Dragons Abreast ACT & Region who organised the event would like to thank the many organisations that supported us, with special thanks to Canberra Dragon Boat Association, ACT Rowing Association, Canberra Yacht Club and Rotary
Results will be announced at a regatta Wind Up function on 10 November, when the Award for the winner of the Highest Fundraiser Award will be presented.
