South Australia - Archives
In March 2003 Sandra Sinclair and I joined Dragons Abreast Australia composite team in New Zealand at the Inaugural South Pacific Breast Cancer Regatta. This was our first trip away and what an exciting time we had, several members of Warriors Abreast were in the composite too.
We came home totally hooked by the dragon spirit. The City of Port Lincoln had never seen dragon boats but we were about to change all of that. We established our team in January 2004, no boat and 4 members - 2 survivors and 2 supporters. We had 3 boats and 100 members travel from Adelaide, including Warriors Abreast to attend our TUNARAMA. The local community was most impressed with the spectacle and colour at the sight of the dragon boats on our beautiful harbour.
By October 2004 just 10 months later were the proud owners of very own beautiful NEW boat and a membership of 60.
Warriors Abreast Adelaide and Dragons Abreast Port Lincoln are the only two teams in SA who are members of Dragons Abreast Australia. Warriors Abreast - Adelaide’s Dragons Abreast team were established in the late 2003 by a group of women who had been part of the first breast cancer team which started in Adelaide in the late 2001.
Members of Warriors Abreast have participated both in Shanghai and Vancouver, and in October 2005 were the host team for the Australian Masters Games in Adelaide. They organized a most beautiful dinner for Dragons Abreast members from around Australia.
