January 2006

Each year, Port Lincoln holds a Tunarama Festival over the Australia Day weekend, traditionally, young people from the area elect to enter the Tunarama Ambassador Quest to raise money for local Charities and Groups.

This year of 2006, we had a lovely young lady, Abby King, nominated by Pt Lincoln Accommodation, enter the Quest and named Dragons Abreast Port Lincoln as her beneficiary of funds raised by her and her Committee.

For the past 6 months, Abby has been wonderful, she was able to be involved with the SA Variety Bash which in 2005 began in Port Lincoln, with DAPL members help Abby & her Committee, supplied a cooked breakfast for 300 drivers and team members, we had a sausage sizzle at the Makybe Diva welcome home day, we helped with providing Supper at the SA Police Ball in Pt Lincoln also helping to raise funds for the Pt Lincoln Bush Fire Appeal, Michelle Hanton was Guest Speaker at a Dinner for Abby and we had successful Cake Stalls and Sausage Sizzles.

Abby raised over $8000 and presented the cheque to Maxine Barker at the Gala Dinner while 13 other pink feather boa clad members cheered very loudly.

Abby was presented with many wonderful prizes and we wish her well in her future choices of career and travel.

Abby we thank you for being you and thank you for the support for us from you and your family and friends.

Our District Council of Pt Lincoln held a Civic Reception for all who participated in the 10th Australian Masters Games in October 2005. Each Club was presented with a plaque with the DC of Pt Lincoln coat of arms, it was a wonderful night and it was great to be recognised for our achievment by the Community of Pt Lincoln.

Dragons Abreast Port Lincoln began in January 2004 with four members and no boat.

Dragon Boating had never been in Port Lincoln, what a challenge!

By November 2004 we had 60 members and launched our very own new 20-seat boat an amazing achievement in less than 12 months.

We also have members in Ceduna, Kimba, Tumby Bay and Coffin Bay, which cover a lot of the Eyre Peninsula. Over the last 12 months we have visited and done ‘Come n Try’ where possible in each of these communities of which who are all very enthusiastic to get their own boats and teams happening.
